TIMIKA | After the security crisis in Beoga, Puncak Regency, Papua in the past week, flight operators have continued to transport refugees from that area to Timika.
Such as the Smart Aviation airline which operates Grand Caravan type aircraft. In the last two days, there have been 11 civil flights carrying people seeking shelter.
On average, in one felling, 9-12 passengers are carried.
Head of the Airport Management Unit (UPBU) Mozes Kilangin Timika Soekarjo said his party had absolutely no authority to force airlines to fly.
“After the security crisis in Beoga, we left it entirely to the flight operators, if they (the airline) feel safe, please fly, but if they can't, cancel the flight. It all depends on the operator," said Soekarjo when met in Timika, Thursday (15/4/2021).
He said, flight operators certainly have parameters when they want to fly, such as safety, security, weather, aircraft airworthiness, and others.
"If they say they can't fly, then we can't force them," he said.
“In addition, we and the operator are partners. Where we only provide flight facilities, while they are the tools or modes," he said.
“Information from Smart Aviation flight operators has 9 flights and yesterday 2 times. So in two days it has been 11 times," he explained.
"Flights from Timika to Beoga are usually carried out in the morning, under 11.00 WIT or 10.00 WIT. If it is above that hour, then it is no longer possible," he said.
